Miyajima Hina Doll Festival

Are you looking for a nice excursion in Hiroshima? There are wonderful events on Miyajima Island now!! The Miyajima Hina Doll Festival is held from the 25th of March until the 3rd of April.

The 3rd of March is the actual day of the Dolls' Festival in Japan. This festival is a traditional event held to pray for girls' healthy growth. Families with girls display a set of hina dolls at home. It is believed hina dolls protect girls from bad luck.

In this Miyajima Hina Doll Festival, you can see private antique doll displays at over 30 locations including historical Japanese residences which are only open to the public during this festival, and English-speaking volunteers will help you organize your visit at the Doll Festival Information Center in Omotesando Shopping Arcade.

Please buy tickets at Miyajima Pier for the four main displays at: Miyajima History and Folklore Museum (English speaking guides), Daishoin Temple, Yamanaka House, and Konishi House.

And there are some other events during this festival:
  • Japanese Culture Workshop
  • International Cafe
  • Spring Tea Ceremony
  • Sea Kayak Tour

Sumo Season is On in Osaka

Have you ever seen sumo tournament ? That's really great. At first I wasn't so interested, I was thinking it was quite basic and annoying. But once I've seen my first tournament I really got addict ! They are so powerful and there are so many ways to hold the opponent !
If you can I do recommend you to go to see by yourself. The Osaka tournament will take place in the Osaka Prefectural Stadium (you can go easily by JR train from J-Hoppers) from the 15th to the 19th. Tickets from 3000 yen. Opening at 8:00 in the morning but the tournament start with the weaker rikishi (sumo wrestler). To see the most interesting matches, go there at 15:30.

Postcards are available

Hello ! We just started selling postcards of Japan in J-Hoppers Osaka, Hiroshima and Hana Hostel (some were already available in J-Hoppers Kyoto too) !
If your looking for beautiful scenery to send to your friends and family don't hesitate to buy them at our guesthouse, because it can be very hard to find elsewhere as it's not common in Japan to send postcards. Japanese people usually prefer to send or bring back some local food or handicraft. These are called 'Omiyage'.
If you want to have a look at the photos available, jump to the following link : http://PostcardsOf.BayashiInJapan.net/
Also, if you have any question about them, let's come to J-Hoppers Osaka and have a talk with Pascal. Yes, the photograph is from the staff of J-Hoppers !! And will always enjoy talking with you about Japan ;-)
