Yukata Party in Osaka

We had a little yukata party few days ago ...

Of course it started with some cooking :

Onigiri and reimen !

Then lets dress up a little :

Oh, it became so crowded suddenly !

Some bad guy came and tried to steal the chocolates ...

But our valiant manager threw him back away !

Then some customers wanted to try yukata too ...

It was so fun ! Please come and join us next time !

Lake Biwa fireworks

The other day I went to the fireworks at Lake Biwa with some nice boys & girls.

Lake Biwa Fireworks Display : 10,000 shots / 350,000 spectators

(Both fireworks and spec are too mach…).

Everybody took lots of pictures and check them each time (more than 10 times).

And Everybody had Asahi beer and gave me lots of point stickers (more than 10 points!!)

Japanese Kimono children were always very cute

and we went toward them to take pictures.

Japanese yopparai people were always very friendly(?)
and they came toward us to talk with us in English.

The fireworks were awesome and Japanese beer taste was awesome, too.

(Aaa, sorry I don’t have a nice picture about latest fireworks….)

I had a good time with good friends. Thank you for your everything.

I will get a big present from Asahi Beer(?).

Ontayaki -works of Japanese pottery- in Oita

During my summer vacation, I visited a small village in the mountain, the home of Ontayaki.

Since its opening of kiln 300 years ago, Ontayaki pottery had established its simple yet tasteful style with history.
In the villages hidden in the mountains of Hita City Oita prefecture, ten kilns still operate in the same procedure and produce the pottery which are mostly used in casual, everyday settings.
The potter's clay is taken from the nearby mountains, and using the water from the stream, they are in small pieces after being grinded in the millstone. Then, the draining and grinding continue for few times until the clay is fine and smooth.
After the grinding, the craftsmen will use potter's wheel with their feet and form a shape and then they are put in the kiln to complete the process. There are no machines or any automated devices used for Ontayaki.

The traditional way of making Ontayaki, and the skills being passed on to the younger generation, it was enlisted in Japan's Important Intangible Cultural Asset in 1993.
Ontayakino sato (home of Ontayaki) has slower pace of life with the sound of streams and the millstone making the clay are the only sounds heard in the area.

There are buses from JR Hita station to Onta Sarayama, the bus takes 40 minutes, costs 760 yen for one way. It takes 3 hours 14 minutes from Beppu to Hita by JR local train. Hita is located between Beppu and Kokura (Fukuoka).

A Little Guest from Australia

Hello, it is getting hotter and hotter here in Japan. What is it like in your country?

This is about a little guest who stayed at J-Hoppers Osaka Central for 2 weeks; a ten-year-old boy named Jack.

He came from Australia with his father David. This was their first visit to J-Hoppers, though they had been to Osaka before. They were kind enough to bring us a box of chocolates as a souvenir of Australia. Thanks!!

Jack is a big fan of Hanshin Tigers (base ball team)
It warmed my heart every day to see David getting his son into the habit of greeting every one. We had a very happy moment as we felt like we have been their host family.

Especially I loved it when Jack drew something on his sketchbook every morning. He really shines at it and he gave us many drawings of J-Hoppers before returning home.

This mysterious school girl is a model for Jack always.

The last one was painted when Jack knew about misery and sorrow caused by A-bomb.
「Kids Live in Peace」

Normally it should be a wish every one must have, but sadly, it has never entirely turned to reality in actuality. He described the most important thing to us in this painting, though the sentence is very short and simple. I do hope his wish will be a genuine one to all the people in this world.

With my deepest gratitude to David and Jack.
