Drying persimmon (Kaki) Picked In Hiroshima

On my birthday in Hiroshima, I helped my Japanese Mum and Dad hang Persimmon fruit on to ropes for drying. First of all we picked about 200, then we had to get them ready for peeling. When we hang the fruits on the rope, we need to leave a piece of twig still attached so they stay secure on the rope.

When peeling, always leave a small ring of peel at the tip of the fruit to stop it splitting whence it dries. Beware!! Do not, as I did, try some of the peel. It will make your mouth go drier than Gandhi's flipflop. Not a very pleasant experience at all. But It made my family laugh so it was worth it.

After dropping into a pan of boiling water for 5 seconds, we hang the fruits on the rope so they will not touch when they are hanging out to dry. Then we let nature take its course. After a few weeks, we have lovely dried (Kaki) persimmon which we can eat straight away or put in the freezer to store for the entire year. Goood Joooob

KUMANO FUDE ~Hiroshima souvenir~

A popular Hiroshima souvenir is Momiji  manju, which originated in Miyajima.
Today,i will tell you one more our recommendation's  souvenir "KUMANO FUDE".
They can become a good souvenir of "Japanese Culture" for overseas friends:)

These traditional handcrafted brushes were made in Kumano Town, Hiroshima Prefecture.
It became popular because it was presented Nadeshiko Japan, the women's national soccer team with Japan's National Honorary Award winners.Kumano Fude were designated as “traditional crafts” by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry on May 10th in 1975.

The Fude making of Kumano had started around 1830 at the end of Edo period, and the tradition has been continuing for almost 170 years.
Especially, Kumano-fude for make up has attracted any make -up artists from around the world.
I gave it  to one of my friends in the past, the friend was to be pleased:) but It was a bit expensive....

You can buy it  anywhere in Hiroshima, Hiroshima station,Miyajima Island, department store. If you are interested in ,feel free to ask us at reception♪

hiking in Hyogo

There are many great mountains in Japan.
I've climbed Mt Fuji which is the highest mountain of Japan 5 years ago.
It was really tiring to get to the top of it.
But the view from there was amazing beautiful and I even teared seeing the beautiful sunrise coming out of the clouds.
I felt freedom from the stress!!
I got totally hooked on hill climbing after that:D

I went a hiking last week.
The hiking course used to be a JR train railroad.
It is located at Namase station in Hyogo.

Walking on the closed railway line is so exciting!

But I was scared when I went through a dark tunnel!!!!

I had a relaxing day walking in nature.

I want to climbe Japan alps someday!!

Hida Takayama's Traditional Food No,1

Hida Takayama has several celebrated local dishes.

One of these is hoba miso, made by cooking miso (fermented soybean paste), onions, and shiitake mushrooms on top of a large magnolia leaf.

The simple flavor of the dish makes it a splendid complement to rice.
Another local specialty, Hida beef, is of exceptional quality and flavor.

Visitors have the choice of enjoying either Japanese or Western-style cuisine.

We are not sisters !

I really enjoy working at Osaka Hana Hostel, it's great to welcome guests from all over the world and communicating with them is fun!

We get many questions and enquiries regards Tourist spots in Osaka , Shopping Place, Restaurant information and Facility information etc.

However,  we are getting frequent questions like these:

’You do not have any day off!!’

’Do you work with your sister?’

‘Are you sisters?‘

A lot of guests think that Reception staff Masae and myself are sisters or sometime they even get confused that Masae is me and I am Masae....

for example, let's say I attended Mr T. check in last night,  and this morning  Mr T. comes to the reception and continues his conversation with Masae as she helped him check in ...

Yes, we are smiler in a sense of glasses and short hair.... but feature of our face is not so smiler....

Do you think we are sisters??

Left is Lovely Masae, Right is myself Hideko !

This is what I eat every twice a month at least!

Zaru Udon and Vegetable tempura of  Marugame-Seimen restaurant.
It is only 410 yen and they have more varieties of udon, tempura and rice balls.

Also they have branches in Thailand, China, Hawaii and more!
I hope that many udon and tempura lovers visit Japan!

Certainly what I ate first when I came back to Japan from long travel in India was Udon of Marugame-Seimen!
