Kani Doraku restaurant

Kani Doraku (かに道楽) is restaurant specializing in crabs.
Crabs are pretty expensive seafood, but super delicius!
Especially this restaurants crab is the best!! I was very touched with their crabs!!!!!!

Kani Doraku is very famous as moving crab signboard.
I knew this restaurant but never jumped in.

Because it is expensive. We usually eat crabs only on special day.
Otherwise we do not have a chance to eat.

I can say this restaurant is expensive.
The low price is 5000yen per person.
But I highly recommend trying once in your life.
This is the Japanese translational multi-course meal!
If you do not try, I am sure you will regret!

Self-Introduction (A new staff of Hiroshima Hana Hostel)

Hi, everyone!
I'm Mizzy who just started working at Hiroshima Hana Hostel from the beginning of Oct.
I love travelling and meeting new people.
I've been to Australia for a year as working holiday, and then traveled to China, hitchhiked in 27 countries in Europe, and the latest trip was to U.S.A!

Also, I loooove dogs and I just decided to go to a dog grooming school.
I got a puppy on the next day I came back to Japan from America and I named her Jazz.
She's so adorable and I'm going to write about her next time. :)

Anyway, all the staff in Hiroshima Hana Hostel are so friendly and funny.
I enjoy drinking with them and some guests of the hostel after work and it always end up as a great adventure! lol

I'm still struggling with the job but hoping all the guests who stay at Hiroshima Hana Hostel have a memorable time with lots of smile!

I'm looking forward to seeing you at Hiroshima Hana hostel sometime soon and I would like to share lots of stories with you!
So why don't you come join us??? :D

Thank you for reading!

Cheers,
Mizzy

Visited Nara to stay with my friend

I went to Nara to stay with my friend last week.
Nara is the oldest capital in Japan and famous for deers and many old temples such as Todaiji, Horyuji, and Kasuga Shrine.

You can visit many famous temples easily from JR Nara or Kintetsu Nara Station.
This time, I went to Nara Deer Park and Todaiji Temple.
On the way to get to the temple, I found the ”icecream shop” car in front of Nara National Museum and bought ”Miso icecream”. The taste was like a caramel indeed! We found the delicious icecream!

After that, I went to Todaiji, where I found many deers! But since many tourist have feeded them with ”Shika Senbei,” most them have been taking a nap...

Then, we also took a rest to have a tea in the cafe restaurant, which is famous for various kinds of smoothie near Mochiidono shopping area on Sanjo Street.

In the cafe, I had a Japanese-style smoothie, ”黒蜜と白玉団子のスムージー(Smoothie with Black syrup & Rice-flour dumplings). It was absolutely delicious and the tast was like the mix of banana, vanilla, and black syrup!

ACCESS
If you wish to go to Nara from Kyoto Hana Hostel, please go to Platform # 8 to 10 in JR Kyoto Station and take the train toward Nara.

How to make Sarubobo♡

It's getting much cooler in Takayama these days.
It's autumn, the best seasons for reading, eating, creating!!

So I went to a craft center in Takayama and made a sarubobo.
Actually I made "Ubobo" which is a rabbit baby, not monkey baby.
This time I will show you how to make "Ubobo". (Sarubobo is very similar.)

These are the all materials→→→
I chose the pink one.
You can choose the color from white, pink or blue for "Ubobo".

 1. Make ears using glue.
 2. Make her wear a hood around her face.
 3. Make a triangle for the hood using glue.
 4. Connect head and body using thread and needle.
     It's the most difficult point.
If it's loose, the head will be missing!! OMG!!
 5. Give her an apron.
You can write down some message for your family,
     friends, boyfriend or girlfriend.
It will be a nice souvenir, isn't is?
 6. Give her a vest.
     It a symbol for Sarubobo.

Completed!!
Finally I made it!!  →→→
It takes about 1 hour. It was really fun and very concentrated! It looks salable, isn't it? I'm a good craft maker!! Hahaha!
Anyway, there is nice and skillful staff for teaching us. Also English speaker there. So Anybody can enjoy making Sarubobo or Ubobo.
There is another craft that you can make as well.
It costs 1600 yen for "Ubobo" and 1400 yen for "Sarubobo". If you have a ticket for Hida folk village (museum for Gassho building next to the craft center), you can get 100 yen discount.

Souvenir, which everyone is worried...
Most of all people buy something for their family or friend or lover.
But I think it's a good idea to give them what you made by your hand in that country. It's going to be a nice memory for the traveller and also to be the only one thing in the world!!

Auturm fruits in Japan!

Hello, this is Masae from Osaka Hana Hostel.
It was hot few week ago in Osaka but it is getting cooler and I feel autumn is around the corner.

Autumn is a great season in Japan.
The leaves turn yellow and red, and it is absolutely beautiful!! I cannot wait to see it soon.

Another thing I love about Autumn is we have so many good fruits in this season!!

I will introduce some of them.....!

■Nashi (Japanese pear)
It looks like an apple but it taste so different. If you never have it, please try it !
It is so sweet, fresh and juicy. Most of people eat without skin, but I eat with skin. It taste much better with it I believe.

■Mikan (Japanese Orange)
It could be very cheap to buy them sometime. I bought 1bag of orange(8of them in it) for 200yen($2) yesterday.

This is a famous orange juice in Japan, called "Pon Juice".
This juice is made from 100% Japanese Orange.
So if you didn't have a chance to try Mikan, please try this juice.
It sour but sweet, I love this flavor since I was small.
■Kuri (chestnuts)
We normally boil them and eat, or peel the skin and cook with rice (Kuri Gohan) that is so nice and every time I eat Kuri Gohan, I feel autumn has come.
Or you can find roasted kuri (Ama Guri) at convenience store or supermarkets.

Amaguri (roasted chestnut)
Kuri Gohan, you may find it in a supermarket
or food section of a department store.
■Kaki (persimmons)
That is one of my favorite fruit. Other fruits (Orange and Apple) can be seen at a supermarket all around the year, but we can eat Kaki only Auturm through winter. I think this is very delicate fruits.
We eat a dried persimmon too.
So we can enjoy it all around the year.

■Apple (Ringo)
Maybe I don't need to mention it. Japanese Apple is big and great!!

I hope you enjoy eating Japanese fruits when you visit Japan!!

Once upon a time at Hana Hostel Kyoto...

There is one kind cleaning staff whose name is Shizu-san. One day, when she walked past one elementary school she found one stray cat down on the concrete street. The cat showed a subtle movement but seemed it does not have any energy left even to meow. Shizu-san asked the school kids around if they know any animal hospital nearby but they didn't know any. So she came back to Hana Hostel to ask for the direction to the closest animal hospital, and ask for something to put the cat in. It turned out that the place is in the shopping mall near the Kyoto station. She, and one receptionist went there together and spend a couple of hours there. Lucky, the cat was not seriously ill. A veterinarian injected an antibiotic on its back which made cat like a camel. Cleaned up around its eyes they were festered bad enough to make them keep closed. There was no one to pass the cat to, so she decided to take it for a while at her house till it gets any better. But the more she passed her time with it, the more her affection to it increased. So as to the cat. So she decided to have the lovely cat with her!! Look at this beautiful cat! She now could open her lovely eyes and pose like this:) Kawaii!!!

Exciting Okinawa!

I have been super excited since I have decided to got to Okinawa in October. My holiday will be 10 days this time. Okinawa is one of my best favorite places and I've been there 3 times but it still exciting to visit there. I think it is because of the atmosphere there. Once I get there I don't feel I'm in Japan. People speak Japanese and they actually look like Japanese but their accent of Japanese, the smell, whether, food and buildings make me feel like not in Japan. It like I am in between Japan and somewhere else. The atmosphere attract me a lot whenever I go there. This time,I am thinking to try something new. It is 'WATS'. Have you ever heard of the name? It means 'Water Shiatsu'. You can get shiatsu massage in sea water at seaside center. How feel the massage is different depends on person as I heard. Someone could feel like in dream!
Also there is 'Yachimun no sato' (pottery village) near the shiatsu place in middle parts of Okinawa main island. Many pottery handiwork from many groups of pottery are available. It will be exciting to visit the place cause I'm into collecting plates, bowls and glass after I started living my own.
The trip will be for some new experience and meeting something I really love!
