Garyu Sakura

This is Matsu from J-Hoppers Hida Takayama.

Takayama is one of the coldest areas in Japan so you could see Cherry Blossom until late April.

Normally to see Sakura in this area is 2 weeks behind compared to Kyoto ,Tokyo and Osaka.

Last week I went to see Garyu sakura at Hida Ichinomiya ( 10 minutes from Takayama)

There is 1000-year-old cherry tree in Garyu Park. “Garyu” means “lying dragon” because the shape of the tree’s trunk and branches  The tree, which is said to be over 1,100 years old, is designated as a national natural treasure. It is gorgeous!!

What are some of your favourite places to see cherry blossoms?

Aceess:1 minute from  Hida Ichinomiya station
          10 minutes from Takayama station
Duration:normally 20th~27th April every year

Guten Tag! from Germany!

This is Yoshi!!!
I traveled around Germany last week as I was on holiday for 1 week.
I have used Frankfurt Airport for my transfer to Edinburgh during my stay in Scotland.
But, I had never visited Germany before.... My Swiss friend taught me German, so I was longing to speak German since I had got little chance to use the language (at the beginner's level).

I took Lufthansa to get to Frankfurt. I was lucky enough to get my flight ticket (Business class) because of some reason... Absolutely over the moon!!!

Then, I left Frankfurt to Ludwigshafen, heading to Heidelberg.
I've heard that Heidelberg had the oldest university in the country, so I saw lots of people (maybe students) taking trams in the centre of the city.
After that, I visited Heidelberger Schloss where I saw beautiful scenery from the castle.

On my second day, I went to Hohenzollern Castle. I was really surprised to see its magnificence.
After entering the castle, the first room has walls with the drawing of some tree expressed as the family tree for the Hohenzollern.
The family tree has been still "growing!" (You can see the name of the new baby on the family tree on the wall in fact!)

Moving to Füssen, I stayed for 1 night there and then visited Hohenschwangau and Wieskirche!!
What beautiful places they are!

The Alps near Füssen
I've heard that Schloss Neuschwanstein was the model of "Cinderella Castle"in Disney.
I'm not sure it is true or not..., but it was a really beautiful castle! I wish if I lived there...
Schloss Neuschwanstein
It was a long journey from Wieskirch to Rothenburg ob der Tauber by bus.. over 300km or so.....
A wee bit tired.... tho...
In Rüdesheim am Rhein, I had a lot of food such as sausages, pints of beer and glasses of wine...
Then, I also tried a "Rüdesheimer Kaffee" (coffee with a cream and brandy) !
So, yummy!! You should try it if you visit there!

Rüdesheimer Kaffee

I really enjoyed staying in Germany, visiting various castles, having delicious food!

I hope I will visit Germany again in the near future!

Go! Hiroshima Carp!

Have you ever watched Japanese baseball games at a stadium in Japan?

Japanese baseball fans are really enthusiastic and an atmosphere at stadium is interesting even though you are not a big fan of baseball.
They sing their own team song and perform to cheer their home team.

Our home team is Hiroshima Toyo Carp and the team color is red.
The baseball stadium is 5 minutes walk from Hiroshima Hana Hostel and you may see lots of people in a red t-shirt heading to the stadium when a game is on.

This year, Hiroshima Carp is doing really good and is top of the ranking so far.
Hiroshima Carp fans are really excited about it and dreaming of their victory as a champion.

One of Hiroshima Hana Hostel's cleaning staff is a big fan of Hiroshima Carp and she set up an exhibition of Hiroshima Carp in a common room on the 5th floor of our Hostel.

The game at Mazda Stadium in Hiroshima in May is on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 25th, 27th, 28th, and 29th.

Why don't you go see the game with a red shirt if you have time?
Go! Hiroshima Carp!

Unique gift

We have got the lovely gift from the guest and it was also unique.

It was actually whole apple decorated by caramel sauce and chocolate chips.

It looks like this!!

Unique isn't it?

It looks a little bit wired but taste was pretty good!

You can buy this from "Rockey Mountain Chocolate Factory" which is from America selling in Japan.

It will be a great gift!!

Hanami @ Peace Park

We went to hanami at peace park.

Almost all of our staffs from J-Hoppers Hiroshima and Hiroshima Hana and some guests joined this.

One of our staffs Tsuru-san cooked some nice dishes like potato salad, fried chicken, nikujaga, onigiri and so on. We also had nice sake from Iida-san which was really good.

Sarakura was almost over, but we enjoyed eating and chatting.

Japanese thinks for every bit that can be more convenient!

Hello!

Its Hideko here.

Its been a while (already 2 years!!) since I came back to Japan and always admire the enthusiasms  Japanese people have, to make everything so convenient!

Here it is, lately I found my love again for 'American Dog' (That's how we call 'Corn Dog') and it always comes with this amazing thing!!

It is a dispenser for Tomato sauce and mastered sauce and if it doesn't come with American Dog, what mess my life would be......

What an invention!!!

So I can have may American dog in peace : )

 How easy is this!!!
 No mess!!!
