Must visit place if you visit Japan..... Takayama!!! (J-hoppers)
Since I came back to Japan
after a absent of maybe 12years....(this does not include short
visits and involving work...) I promised my self a domestic trip a
month which is not very hard to organize if you are working for
J-hoppers/Hana Hostel!!!
So I decided to visit all J-hoppers and Hana Hostel to start with and the month of May, I visited Takayama/Shirakawago.
Many people do not give much attention to Takayama/Shirakawago because, International Flight does not land (well no airport for that matter!), not busy city where you can do lots of Shopping, a little bit out of the way......or simply don't know the existence...
I must admit that Takayama is the one of must visit place in Japan!
The old town is fantastic to walk around and does not take much time but at the same time, you can spend hours visiting such as Yoshijima house (Important property), very close to Takayama Station and you can feel the great old Japan but different from Kyoto or Nara.
People of Takayama so warm that you feel really welcomed!
I met a few people along the way and all of them were so warm and interesting people!
One of the highlight if not the best, is that there are many Sake breweries based in Old town and you can do many free sake tasting and purchase very local sake.
Shirakawago where you can see one of world heritage, The Gassho Zukuri Building you can visit inside where actual owner family still lives inside......
The old building has so much character and gives you a nostalgic feeling that you have time tripped to a old days.....
And last but not least, J-hoppers Takayama, so comfortable and warm atmosphere, I met many great people and went to a trip, did BBQ and crazy Karaoke night.
Only sad thing was that because of a weather situation, I had to give up Kamikochi tour.... but then again I have a reason to come back and visit Takayama so, still happy!
