Shirakawa-go Light-Up Bus Tour and Room Package 2019

Shirakawago light-up in snowy winter

Shirakawa-go is famous for its well-preserved thatched houses, whose well-thought-out structure allows them to withstand the long, snowy and bitterly cold winter in Shirakawa-go. These Gassho-houses, so named because of their prayer-hands construction, look ever more lovely and spectacular in winter, when their steeply slanting slopes are covered with a thick layer of purely white snow. Marking the climax of its winter season is the world-renowned light-up festival held every year, on only a number of days in January and February, the snowiest time of the year. In 2019, J-hop Tour will be organizing a bus tour to this light-up event, accompanied by an experienced English-speaking tour conductor, for all six nights designated for the festival, on January 14, January 20, January 27, February 3, February 11 and February 17.

The tour is offered in the form of a package including two nights’ stay in the affiliated hostel J-hoppers Hida Takayama Guesthouse, at affordable rates and conveniently located only 5 minutes’ walk from Takayama Station, saving guests the trouble of booking accommodation and the light-up tour separately. Our light-up tour will depart from Takayama at 3.30 pm, and during the one-hour bus ride, be rest assured that no time will be wasted as our seasoned English-speaking tour conductor will offer information regarding Shirakawa-go as well as tips on how to make the most of your time in the village. Thanks to the early arrival time of our tour, participants will be able to enjoy not only the magical light-up at night time but also the stunning scenery in day time before the illumination begins. To shield our guests against the cold, we will also offer each guest a tiny kairo, or hand warmer.
