An antique market in Takayama

Hello, this is Papi from J-Hoppers Hida Takayama Guest House.

I think we had  " the last snow" yesterday.
So, spring is coming to Takayama.

This market is  which messengers tell of the arrival of spring in Takayama.

An antique fair started in 1982.
Held on the first Sunday of the month from April to October.

The streets are temporarily closed to vehicles (called “pedestrians’ paradise”) and over 20 art dealers have stalls on the street.

You will enjoy looking at olden daily-life utensils while strolling down the street.

MLB

Hello, I'm Aki from J-Hoppers Hida Takayama.

I have been going to watch various sport matches recently.

My friend and I went to a MLB game of the Mariners and Athletic at Tokyo dome.

Finally, the time had arrived that Ichiro returned to Japan as a MLB player since he left 10 years ago.

Therefore tickets were sold out.

↓Ichiro was drinking a beer before the match?

↑The cameras from crowd never stopped flashing camera whilst he was in the offense position.
He hit 4 out of 5 in the game.

We were lucky that our seats were located near Ichiro’s fielding.
He was stretched a lot during his defensive time.
We were so happy that the Mariners won the game.

Blooming information

It finally has been warm in Kyoto these days.
As you might have known, this season is the time to bloom out the beautiful cherry blossom.

I've walked around the city last week. Few buds has been blooming.
I can tell they would be adorable when all of them bloom out.

The best time of this year would be around 1st April - 15th April.

Recommendation places:
●MARUYAMA PARK
●NINNAJI TEMPLE
●along the KAMO RIVER

More information as below,
http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3951.html

I'm very excited to have HANAMI (bloom gazing under the trees).

We'll be waiting for your visit in Kyoto.

Ciao !

bater exchange

When we find something left behind in J-Hoppers Kyoto Guesthouse, we keep them in our 'lost property box' for three months.
The other day, I tidied things up in that box and realized that there are still a lot of things we can use.

So I put those goods in a small box and decorated a little. We started 'barter exchange' (Bustu-Bustu Kokan in Japanese) at the lobby then.

I always travel with a backpack. And it has to be lighter than what I think I can carry. While I traveled central Asian countries, the season changed summer to winter. I gave my summer cloths away to other traveler who were going to south and got warm cloths from them.
We are now able to bring tons of information in flash memory sticks, and that makes our travel much easier and lighter.
However we human being still have to wear something on and carry them when we travel.
Why don't you exchange the stuff you do not need any more and get something you will need.

Geek festival and sumo

me and my friends went to Nipponbashi to see how Geek Festival was last weekend!
there were so many animation characters which I had no idea. haha
well, it was super weird but that was one of our cultures...hard to believe though!

Also I saw sumo games which was pretty fun! maybe because we all were little drunk haha. we have been drinking since 1pm. We even brought some booze in a sumo place.

A Rainy Day in Kyushyuu, Aso and Beppu.

As always, when I have a few days off, it rains

that we would hear the sound of mother nature, kindly helping us tend our vegetables with her ever welcomed beverage, pestering for an
invitational at our window pains. like cats and dogs. So I should not have been the lease bit
surprised when we woke up on the morning to drive 6 hours to Kyushu,
As happy as I was to be taking to the highways, I couldn't help but think that we had a few days or poor visibility and late mornings ahead.

After a mornings work, we raced down to Aso, obeying the speed limits of course, and managed to arrive j

ust in time to have a few beers with friends after they had just finished work. The weather was very demoralising considering we were hoping to go and see an angry volcano from way up in the clouds the following morning. So we were not the least bit surprised to see a grey mass perched upon Mount Aso the following morning when we a

The hostel was the best consolation we could hope for in the circumstances, with a log fire, great hosts and plenty to keep us entertained whilst out of the rain.

But all in all it was a lovely few days, and it felt great to get out of the grimy city for a few days and refuel my love for wide open spaces and things the colour green.

Rooftop Terrace @ J-hoppers Hiroshima

Hello everyone!
This is Masa from J-Hoppers Hiroshima.

Recently, it is getting warmer and warmer in Hirohsima. Soon the cherry blossoms will be in full bloom! We have Hanami parties at Peace Park every spring. Hanami is kind of a picnic under the cherry blossom trees and enjoy the beautiful flowers. I can not wait it!

Under the spring sunshine, we are trying to change our rooftop terrace to make it more a comfortable space. First, we changed the tables and chairs.

So we said Good-Bye to the old tables and chairs...
Thank you for withstanding wind and rain for 5 years!

Then we said Hello to the new ones!!!
↓↓↓

Can not wait to drink here this summer!
We are having some plants like herbs and veggies later.

Come and enjoy our rooftop terrace! :)

Local Train Trip!!

Do you know the youthful 18 ticket ?

It is a seasonally available railway ticket which gives you five days of unlimited, nationwide travel on local and rapid JR trains for 11,500 yen or 2,300 yen per day!!

I like traveling by local train because I can enjoy the small town I have never visited.

I just listen to my favorite music, enjoy the view, get off the station and have some local food!!

I recommend this style of travel to the person who has plenty of time.

I took the local train from Takayama to Hokkaido.

It took about 2days though:P

We took 5:30 am train for Tohoku.

There was no guest in the train so my friend laid asleep on the seat.

Takayama-Inotani-Toyama.

We went city hall to see the view from the top.

If it is fine weather, you can see peaks of the Tateyama.

We couldn't see though...

We enjoyed craft beer and local sake in the train.

I had Koshihikari beer and Shimehari Tsuru in Nigata,
Aomori
cidre in Aomori:)

Enjoy the view from the window is one of my favorite things.

I found track No "Zero" at Sakata station.

It was so funny for me.

One of my favorite view was "Komagatake" in Hokkaido.

We stayed in Hakodate for 1 night and went to Mt.Hakodate to see the night view.

It was so beautiful like a jewel box!!

Hakodate is famous for fresh sea food, especially squid.

We tried it, it was still alive!!

Next day we moved to Niseko.

It was kind of end of the season for snowboarding.

But I enjoyed chatting and drinking with friends.

And then I went back to my hometown, Sapporo.

It had great time with my family:)

Why don't you try the youthful 18 ticket ?

Cranberry juice

I am big fan of cranberry juice!!!!!

I tried it first time in Vancouver, since then I have been addicted to cranberry juice:D
I have tried sparkling cranberry juice in America and it was really good!

I could have it everywhere in restaurants in America, but not here.
It's pretty rare, Ive never seen in a convenient store.

This is my favorite brand , Ocean Spray

I sometimes asked my friends or brother to get cranberry juice in their trip:D
I am BIG FUN of it!!!!!!!!!!!

I heard they don't have Fanta Melon in America from my boyfriend.
It was pretty surprising!
And another friends said the taste of Japanese Fanta Orange and Grape is much better than American one!

Same Fanta but taste different! Interesting:D

If you come to J hoppers Osaka, please bring cranberry juice for me:P
