Thank you, Wendy!!

One of our staff has left Osaka Hana Hostel this afternoon.
Her name is Wendy from Holland and she is super pretty and nice!
Actually she always says "Super". I didn't realize but it becomes my favorite phrase now :)

I remember when I have met her first time on the stairs at Hana Hostel.
She has a such a big pretty smile (like sunflower)  and that made my heart so bright and happy!

We love her friendly character a lot and I have learned from her a lot to be happy and smile all the time that is most important thing to make others happy too.

Chef Wendy
While she has been with us for 2months, she offered to cook dinner for us which was so nice of her.
We had more time to get together and eat together in our living room and I feel the bonds of friendship was getting stronger.

It was really nice pasta!

I enjoyed our dinner with my colleague!
Last night (the 30th of AUG) was her last night at Osaka Hana Hostel, so she through the farewell party.
It was Japanese style BBQ party and many staff come to see her.
That showed how much she was loved by everyone !!

We had so much meat and vegetables, but we finished them all!
We had absolutely great time!

Thank you cake for Wendy!! She is Super Super cute!!
Thank you so much for being a part of our family and we never forget about you.
We hope to see you again in the near future!

Good luck with your study in Holland!!
We love you!!!

"Sarubobo" gives you a good luck!

Hi, this is Chiaki from J-hoppers Hida Takayama.
I am a new staff from this April.
Before I came here to Takayama, the only thing I knew about Takayama is "Sarubobo".

Do you know "Sarubobo"?
"Saru" means monkey and "bobo" means baby.
So "Sarubobo" is a monkey baby doll which is as below.

Long time ago, this area is cold and not suitable for farming. So men went to another town to work and women took care of their children at home. However, they don't have enough money to buy some toys for children. So mothers made dolls(Sarubobo) for them to play. Mothers hoped their children's good health while they were making.
Now it has become a lucky charm for us.

And many guests ask us "why they don't have faces".
There is a one guess.
If they don't have faces, you can imagine. When you feel happy, you can see a smiling face on it. When you feel sad, you can see a crying face on it. So they can sympathize  with your feelings.
I think "Sarubobo" is not only cute but also has creativity.

Also "Sarubobo" has so many colors these days and they have meanings.

Red =  All luck
Pink = Love
Yellow = Money
Orange = Work
Green = Relax
Blue = Study
Purple = Long life
Black = Protection from evil
White = Calm mind

Please come to Takayama and get one for your souvenirs.
"Sarubobo" may give you a good luck!!

Illumination Night at Expo Park Osaka

This summer, it has been a really hot and humid one..... and did not feel like doing much and have not done much of summer thing....... so I thought do something and went to see the Tower of the Sun which is a amazing creation of Taro Okamoto and it happened to be a Illumination night!!!

I though It's so miss-matched to see disco mirror balls and lights up in the bush but it was amazingly done and fantastic atmosphere !!

The tower of the Sun was also lighted up and I can not have enough time to looked at it.

 This look is so amazing, It took my breath away......
 Disco mirror but no DJ.... : )
 Amazing back side of the Tower of the Sun.
This was built for EXPO '70 !!!
I actually did not know he had an another face!
Illumination thought the park, fancy ones!

The tower of the Sun is really fantastic and it is amazing during the day time, If you ever visit Osaka, I highly recommend for a visit !
The tower is symbolizing top face is for the future, bottom face is for the present time and back face is for the past....

Miyajima Fireworks Festival

Hello from Hiroshima Hana Hostel, it's Kana here.
It's been crazy hot weather for long time and can not live without air conditioner...Sorry for the earth and environment..

One of the main purpose for visitor to visit Hiroshima is for world heritage "MIYAJIMA"
Miyajima held one of big fireworks festival every Aug.
Last time I visited for that was when I was around 10 years old so, It's been around 20 years (it's 18 years to be more accurate) since last time.

On the way to Miyajima by JR train was CRAZY. Many people was in YUKATA, and pushing each other to squeeze into the train which was already full. I could not breathe propery.

Lucky for me, my friends picked us up by boat to see Miyajima fireworks from the sea.

was really hot but sunset was really beautiful and worth seeing it even though sweating like a waterfall.

There were many boats to take best place to see the fireworks even 2hours before starting time.
From 7:40pm to 8:40pm for one hour, there were around 5000 of beautiful display of fireworks.

If you have  any opportunity to visit Hiroshima, please come on Aug! You will like it for sure!
Let's enjoy summer in Japan next time!!

A new sightseeing spot in Osaka

Do you know "Tadao Ando" who is world famous as a self-taught architect.

I was impressed by his architecture. He use the natural light for his art works and building.
He emphasizes the association between nature and architecture.
He intends for people to easily experience the spirit and beauty of nature through architecture.
I really like his mind!

Now he is planing  for a monumental green 'wall of hope' along the shin umeda city.

The green wall will feature such flowers blooming in different seasons as rhododendrons, hydrangeas, cosmos and wisterias.

The 78-meter long structure will stand three stories tall.
This will be one of the hugest green walls in the world.

It's coming up next month!!!

Peace Nighter August 6th@ Mazda Zoom Zoom Stadium

Baseball is one of the most popular sports in Japan. Hiroshima Carp is our home team and the stadium is just a few minutes walk from Hiroshima Hana.
 It was a special match at Mazda Zoom Zoom Stadium on 6th of August. All instruments were not allowed on this match, so it was a quiet game. Lively Tigers fans were also quiet.
Game started at 18:00 Hiroshima Carp up against Tigers. Starter pitcher was Maeda Kenta who is our ace pitcher. He kept good pitching without giving a run.

 At the end of 5th innings, all spectators raised a green poster which we got at the entrance and Koji Kikkawa, a singer from Hiroshima, sung "Imagine" with the play of bombed piano.
 Jet balloon time at the 7th innings after singing Carp song!!

I sew lots of lighted candles next to the entrance concourse. All of those had messages.

and CARP finally won!!! Game ended with a sac fly by Maru who is at his 4th year and raising his average RBI !!! 1-0 yea!!
