My first half-marathon - running in the rain

Imagine how my anxiety grew in leaps and bounds when the forecast of a cloudy day became light rain and eventually to heavy rain within the span of 24 hours. As I arrived at the venue of the Ondake half marathon on Sep 22, 2016 under a downcast sky, I eyed the runners surrounding me nervously, discovering, to my horror, that many were equipped with either a rain jacket or a makeshift raincoat cut out of a huge plastic bag. I. on the other hand, had nothing of that sort with me. To tell you the truth, I had never before jogged in the rain, let alone for such a long distance. Naturally, I had no idea what would be in store for me running in such challenging conditions, not to mention it was my first attempt at a half marathon. I earnestly believed that I there was a good chance I would not be able to finish it.

As runners, including me, gathered at the starting line, rain began to fall in earnest. As I looked around me, I found, to my relief, that a handful of runners, like me, were without any protection against the rain. This in turn assured me that running in such an outfit was after all not insane or life-threatening. Having said that, the 21 km-run was quite unpleasant over all, as not long after we started running, I was already drenched, and as if it were not bad enough, it was quite cold that morning too. I did not bring my phone with me (I am glad I did not; otherwise, my phone would have been dead) so I am afraid I do not have any photos to show you visually how bad the conditions were, but I think you get the idea from my description.

I did managed to drag myself to the finishing line, recording a time that was not too embarrassing, as I was told. I remember I almost screamed out in joy when one of the volunteers standing on the side urging us on shouted to us, "no more uphill from then on". I soon found myself speeding up , eager to end the misery as soon as I could. But the satisfaction I felt crossing the finishing line was immense! I hope to participate again next year, and hopefully I will be blessed with a much bad weather, and I will be able to see Mt Ondake up close!

We held a special party at J Hoppers Hiroshima on the 9th of this month.

Our cleaning staff Tabasa made all the plans and we decided to make Okonomi-yaki this time!
Okonomi-yaki is a Japanese salty pancake that consists of thinly sliced pork, eggs, vegetables, and noodles inside.
It's pretty popular in Hiroshima and we eat it A LOT!!

The party started at 6:30 and kept going until almost 10pm.

Party just started! Yayyy!
Our previous night staff Kawa-chan cooking Okonomi-yaki

We also had a few local people as guests. They enjoyed chatting and exchanging their own cultures :)
We will definitely throw some party again!
Please join us if you stay at J Hoppers Hiroshima when the party happens!

!! Strengthening physical fitness !!

Hello everyone:)
I'm MAYU from J-Hoppers Hiroshima.
I am 32 years old, then I feel that I'm getting old year after year...

I like drinking with my friends. I could drink all night
2 years ago...
And next morning, I had no problem with my work at all.
I did need only 3 hours to sleep and recover.
I was really tough.

But now...
I need more than 6 hours...
There is no choice to drink all night...
I can not keep wake me up till late night.

Then... I have decided to do something for my aging body.
When I was young, like a student, I was very good at running
long distance. I like it now too.

So... I go for running once a week.
And someday, I'd like to participate in the big marathon race.

I hope that my body will be tough again and drink all night:)
It's very important about tools to keep my motivation.

I need to get good running wear and nice shoes, a cap and so on.
My wish is that my body watch will be slowly and
sometimes get it back by myself!!

Keep trying to do something!!

Sketching again !

 Hello everyone !

Some weeks ago I went with my coworker to a furnitures store. Walking along the alley I stopped in front of some sketch books. I just though that I did not draw fro a long time and just missed it a little...

I finally bought a criterium pen and a sketch book. If I could I would draw every day a little, but cannot keep the rythme..!

I normally do "manga style" drawing but when I am using a sketch book I want to draw what I see. It is like an exercice to see my environnement as it is... So I got to see my hand a lot ! I am choosing small subject to do quick draw, never more than 5minutes. So the hand is quite is to use !

Well it just good to get back on sketching and drawing !

In end of August. I've been Tokyo few days. I visited to sight seeing and Disney sea.

It was my second time in Disney resort but it first time to go Disney sea.
It was totally fun. Usually I don't like to wait the line but I didn't feel bad in there.
I don't know why. I think it was Disney Magic.

Tokyo was great city and too big to sight seen.
I was happy to see Mount Fuji behind of Tokyo tower. The hotel staff said it was kind of special.

I've been to some of major spots at this time.
I would like to visit some local places next time

My summer trip in Tokyo *Art Museum at Omote Sando"

Times flies like a arrow. by Kimy from J-Stay

Summer will be gone soon after typhoon.

Last weekend I went to Tokyo to visit my ex coworker. Because she is pregnant.
So I gave a  small charm from Okazaki Shrine from Okazaki in Kyoto to have easy delivery.
We had a nice lunch and cafe at Omote Sando.
Omote Sando is fancy shopping area like Prada, Y's, Commes des Garcons and cafes.
It felt like Im in maganize model or something. ;P

Actually my main purpose to visit Omote Sando was to go to Nezu Art Museum.
This museum focuses on watching moon.
One of popular architect in Japan Kengo Kuma designed this museum. The first approach hallway is like to way to another dimension world.
Bamboo is a weird plant because it not tree nether grass which has gaps and grow straight up to sky. Japanese architecture has many way made of bamboo especially tea room.

Roof top but inside, it is the first to see this style!

Moon ship from Korea island

Special exhibition was about Technique and Expression in traditional Japanese Painting.
I learned new technique in Japanese painting! I would like to show below.

*Inkline drawing  TARASHIKOMI たらしこみ

*Exetrior shading SOTOGUMA 外ぐま

This drawing technique is creating the effect of variation in light and dark shading snow and light bright white

*Inkline drawing HAKUBYO 白描
This technique was for Esoteric Buddhist drawing.

*Rainbow coloring UNGEI SAISHIKI 雲霓彩色
creating the effect of variation in light and dark color not by blending or shading but by bands of colors next to each other standing with lighter tones and becoming progressively darker.

This museums has 4 teas ceremony I want to have tea ceremony one day!

Summer is almost over and a typhoon is hitting in Japan..
I hope the typhoon will move off to us soon :(

By the way, did you enjoy in this summer ?
I headed to Tsunoshima in Yamaguchi prefecture at the end of summer with my bf.

When I arrived in island, I was excited and happy screamed too much XD
 It was so beautiful !!

I had Kaisen-don(assorted seafood rice bowl) for lunch.

It was soooo good. (yum yum)!!
After that we were swimming and floating in the sea.

This is ocean view from our room in Hotel Nishi Nagato Resort.
If you have any chance to go to Tsunoshima, I recommend to stay at least 1night.

I had really blissful time there!!

On my way home, we went to motonosumi inari shrine.
This shrine was listed on CNN’s pick for most beautiful places in Japan.

I thought through this trip ,there are many wonderful place nearby I still don't know.

I wonder where to go in Autumn:)

another my favorite cafe ♡

Hi there ! It's Madi from Kyoto Hana Hostel.

Recently I went to Sanjo area with my friend to discover.

For me, Sanjo area is like Melbourne in Australia.

There are many fancy cafes, restaurants and shops in this area.
So I have been looking for the opportunity to discover this area and finally I made it !
And I found another my favorite cafe out there ! Hooray :)

I think I am a fancy person about food and beverage and I always trust my first impression when I go to new restaurants and cafes.
If I am satisfied , I keep going whenever I have time and possibly become a regular customer.
If not, I won't ever go back again.

And this time, I went a cafe which I never have been yet and gave me a good impression !
Everything was good and especially the atmosphere melted my heart ♡
I really regret that i have been missing this place for a long time :(

So right after few days, I took another friends there again and enjoyed a moment a lot :)
Now I am pretty sure that I keep visiting this cafe for a while !

If you have an opportunity to visit Sanjo area, you can try this cafe :)
