Hello , I am Matsu from J-Hoppers Hida Takayama.

Snow has almost melted from streets.

So we decided to restart push-bike rental service

Please note that we might stop renting again if snow falls heavily and piles up .

Sake Breweries Tour in Hida Takayama!!

Hello!

I'm moco* from J-hoppers Hida Takayama!!
Do you like sake???

Sake is an alcoholic beverage brewed from rice,
koji mold and yeast.

It's alcoholic content ranges from 13% to 16%.

There are a lot of " sake breweries" in Hida Takayama.
Why is it famous for sake??
Because it has good quality water, rice and master brewers' expertise.

I went to Hirase Shuzo Co., Ltd.
This signboard is placed in front of the sake brewery!!

Visitors can participate in a guided tour for free
and have a sample of sake proudly offered from each sake brewery.

In the factory↓↓

"Kusudama" is main brand in Hirase.

They have English guidance like this;)

GUNDAM, Mt,Fuji and Whiskey

I went to meet my husband's relatives in Shizuoka prefecture.

At first , we had time to see the GUNDAM.
Do you know the GUNDAM??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Suit_Gundam

There was life-size model of a Gundam in the one of attraction for Shizuoka hobby fair.
I have seen life-size model of a Gundam in Odaiba(Tokyo) 2009 but pose was different.
My husband bought a plasticm modeles of Gundam....
This event held next to the Higashi Shizuoka station.
I think you can see the Gundam from train towards Tokyo.

Don't forget that there is a most famous things in Shizuoka!!
It is Mt, Fuji !!!
My husband said that we can see the Mt,Fuji clearly like this photo only 30days in a year.
I am a lucky girl!

After Shisoka, we went to the Suntry whisky distillery.
We joined the factory tour for the Hakusyu whisky.

I was drunk because of the smell from whisky barrel.......

Photographies from Kimura Ihei

I went to see a nice exhibition of Mr Kimura Ihei's works, and I've felt like suggesting it here.
It takes place until the 6th of March at the Contemporary Art Museum 'Kahitsukan' in Gion. The entrance costs 1000 yen and it's opened from 10:00 to 18:00. Mr Kimura lived from 1901 to 1974 and left a very beautiful testimony of this period in Japan and few others country. His pictures reveal peoples in their environment in a rich and entertaining way. Please enjoy them.

Aaron's English Lesson♪

Hi☆ Canadian gentle man who stay in our hostel gave a free English class!
( Surprisingly, he extend one night for the lesson)

He had been a English teacher in Japan.
Now he lives in Korea and teach English as well.
His lesson was amazing!
I was very excited to take a lesson! His smile made us relax. I concentrated in the lesson so far.

I have a lot of things to say about Aaron's kindness and his lesson, introducing the sentences which he made for the lesson. This article is brilliant!

「Japan has a lot to offer. Not only does this country have an impressive number of beautiful sites, it also has some of the best food in the world!!

Backpackers often worry about the cost associated with traveling Japan.
However, with the right mount of planning, japan can actually be quite reasonable.
I hope everyone has a chance to explore this wonderful country at some point in their lives.
It would be a shame, not to!! 」

This sentence is correct! Some people believe in Japanese have a pile of money.
In addition, Japanese currency has been more expensive recently.
According to these reason..some travelers give up visit and explore Japan, I guess.
Aaron says they choose developing countries instead of Japan.

However, I strongly recommend coming to Japan. Japanese beautiful scenery, traditional culture, cuisine.. Everything different from your country and they are really amazing.

Aaron advice me 「B,V, F,TH, L&R」pronounce.
These are difficult to master, but I practice.

Although Mr. Yano joined the lesson as well... he could not follow us...lol

See you then,
Good, Bye!

Holiday

It has been blowing refreshed air around me,
such as J-Hoppers Kyoto has done renovation and changed brightly.
Also, I had 10 days off last month.

I've been to Guam with my family.
It has been 15years since I've been there
and has been long time to travel with somebody.

Some of the places have changed, but the beaches were beautiful as they were.

I was gonna be on Banana boat alone there.
It was quite ashamed to try that by myself.
Because, there were so many Japanese visitors.
I've found out that I am a real Japanese who's very shy.
So, I couldn't do that and of course my mom didn't wanna try the thrilling.

Instead of trying the boat, we found Ice Cream shop there.
It's called " COLD STONE" poplar shop in Japan as well.

I ordered regular size, but the shop lady put a lot of ice cream for me.
it was way huger than Japanese one.Lucky me !

Of course I could eat up.

By the way, what we liked the most was those flowers.
It rarely see those beautiful flowers around my place.

See? Beautiful!!

There were many colors of Plumeria.
I like the yellow one.

↑ This white one is combined with 2 flowers.
It means MALE and FEMALE.
In Guam, they keep them as pressed flowers for their luck
especially for marriage.

My mom brought me those and said "keep them for your future".
I thought she desires me to get married soon.
Wish me luck everyone!

Finally, it was in for a treat with my family and beautiful landscape.
I had a memorable trip and great holiday.

I can't wait to have a long holiday again!!

ciao!

Uncle Kyohei

My sister's baby was finally born on the Feb 1st.

I went to see my sister and her baby yesterday.

she is very lovely. her hands and feet are surprisingly small.

She can't even open her eyes yet. She is just crying and crying. good luck my sis!

She is still 19 years old and she is married....her husband is also really young. 20 years old.

The funny thing is that her husband is my old friend's brother. We are now relatives then lol

Does anyone notice that she has lots of hair even she's just born? incredible!!

The photo board from the guest

We got the awesome board with our photos from one of Japanese guest last week !

In that morning, she came to me and asked, "Is it possible to borrow some of your guest's photos?"

I didn't understand what she wanted to at the first time, but to listened her story, I understood and lent some photos of our Christmas and New Year's parties.
She came to Osaka to learn" how to make a scrap book" from Northern Japan for 3 days, and it was the last day. She already made some scrap books for 2 days, but the last one would be biggest one and she didn't have enough photos anymore by herself. Then she was worried for long time and came up with this idea, as she saw tons of our photos on the wall of J-Hoppers.

In that evening, she came back- I wasn't there though- and left it as her gift for us.
I was so surprised to see it when I went to work on the next day, it was not "scrap" at all, it's big and cute, just like the welcome board of wedding party or something !

.. mm? Did you find something? Forget for forgive about it ;) !

Thank you once again Ms.W , it's great present !!
Please keep up and come to stay any time !

Eho-Maki (Fortune Sushi Roll)

Do you know Eho-Maki (Fortune Sushi Roll?)

February the 3rd is the official end of winter according to the traditional Japanese calendar.

Eating Ehou-maki on the day is one of the special traditional events which has become popular recently.

In Western Japan, people make giant Sushi rolls. It's believed if you eat an entire Sushi Roll facing towards the lucky direction of the year with NO SPEAKING, then you will get good fortune!!! (The lucky direction of this year is the south-southeast.)

If you have no idea what kind of event this is,
please see the pictures below:

If you want to eat it cool, you can tray like this:

We will have Eho-Maki Night at J-Hoppers Hiroshima tomorrow night. Let's have fun and get good fortune for 2011!!!
