Mount Yake

We went to Mt, Yake to see beautiful autumn coloers with our night stuff Kuro.

Mt, Yake is active volcano and not too hard to climb that's why even if it's beginner, you can go one day trip from Kamikochi.

Fortunately it was snow around the peak last night,  we could see beautiful autumn leaves and peak coverd with snow.

We also could see wild monkey in the mountain.

They are used to people so never afraid us, really cute!!!

It will be being closed in Kamokochi during winter season  but you can go Mt, Yake even in winter.

Winter mountain equipment is necessary and professional skill is required.

Actually I've never been there but I will definitely try it someday near future!!!

My favorite time

One and a half year passed since I moved to Kyoto City.
I am from the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture so I came to Kyoto City once every 2 months for shopping or just strolling but visiting and living in the city is different.
I like my life in Kyoto City.

If I am asked what is my favorite thing in Kyoto, I would say I like spending time on Kamo River.
We have no beach to chill out but we have the river and you will see many people enjoying their time there.

I often walk along the river between my house and Sanjo street, about 40min. for one way.
Sometime I bring sandwiches and have lunch watching some ducks and sometimes I grab a cup of coffee at Starbucks which is right next to Sanjo bridge and read a book listening the sound of the river.

Every time I walk along the river, I find something small happiness. (for me :P)
A nutria (coypu) grooming under the bridge, old Japanese couple holding their hands (which is really rare), sun going down behind the Kyoto tower, and the others...

It is good to visit lots of famous tourist spots but I recommend just relaxing beside Kamo river and you may find something memorable.

Winter is coming soon!!!!

Hi.It is Ena from Hiroshima Hana Hostel.
It is getting colder and colder in Japan.
Few days ago, my mum already put a ''Kotatsu ''in the living room.
Kotatsu is the one of the traditional heating system.
An electric heater is attached to the table and we put futon on it.
Sitting around Kotatsu with my family or friends and chatting together  is one of the my favorite things in winter. I also like to eat a mochi ice cream 雪見大福 sitting in it :) Strange as it may sound, mochi ice cream and Kotatsu is the best combination for me!

Since it is soooooo comfortable, it makes us feel sleepy.

" You had better NOT sleep in a Kotatsu not to catch a cold!"

It was often sad by my mum .....
I knew I have should slept on the bed because it heats up only my legs and not whole my body....
However , I could not help sleeping ...

If you have any chance to see Kotatsu anywhere in Japan, please experience the Japanese seasonal tradition of winter:)

British Fair

This is Nao from Kyoto Hana!

British Fair was held at Hankyu Umeda Department few weeks ago.
I visit the fair every year.
This time, I could have a chance to join a seminar of a famous tea company.
The reservation was needed in advance.
But it became full in 10minutes when it started!
So I was very excited to join it!

Ringtons is famous for the unique way of selling their products.
They used to deliver the products by a horse cart to the costumers' home.
People couldn't buy the tea in stores.

Now, horse cart became car.
But they still don't allow to sell their products in stores.
I was amazed with this idea and how they think about the customers.
Even though Ringtons can be known more widely if they sell in stores, it seemed costumers are more important.

At the seminar, Simon san and Sue san(the CEO and his wife) gave us the lecture- how to make perfect Ringtons' tea.

I definitely had a lovely time.
They were very friendly!!!
Now, I enjoy Ringtons tea at home and think someday I want to visit UK again:)

Pottery class

Hello! This is Yulia from J-Hopper Kyoto.
When I just came to Kyoto, all those ceramic shops at Gojo-zaka and around Kyomizu area impressed me so much! Japanese ceramics is very different from what I have seen in Europe. I was amazed by its natural beauty and simplicity. I wanted to try to do something by myself; even though I didn’t really believe I could do something that elaborate and sophisticated.
Since May I am learning pottery at Yu Kobo (ゆう工房)Workshop at Shijo Street. First lesson at the workshop was a big challenge. Classroom was full of different cups, plates, vases… Everything was so shiny and beautiful…

My first task was to make a rice bowl. With help of my wonderful sensei, it worked out. It took me 3 lessons to finish my bowl. First one to make a shape, second one to carve bottom of the bowl and to improve shape, where it was necessary. After we glazed it, work was done. And I had my first hand made rice bowl!
During next half a year my sensei taught me how to make cups, plates, sake glasses. Right now I am trying to make a teapot.
To be honest, it doesn’t really matter if you are good at pottery or not. Just these lessons are really relaxing. They gave me chance to feel creative and happy.
That workshop also have one-lesson course, where you can try yourself and decide whether you want to continue.

Here is their wbe-site:

One of our ex staffs left Japan

One of ex Hana staffs, Eva left Japan went back to Taiwan!!

She used to work at Hana Hostel Osaka as a free accommodation staff.
She went back to Taiwan once and came back here again to study Japanese.

Mt.Ontake, Autumn Color.

It has just started Autumn color around Takayama!!

I always try to go new places to see

the best seasonal view every year.

This time, Mt. Ontake!

It is famous mountain because it erupted last year...

Fortunately, there was no damage Gifu side.

The owner who owned "Gonoike goya" decided to open his Hat this season again.

I love that place so much, so I visited again there.

The weather was perfect to see Autumn colors.

I enjoyed beautiful sunset, clear sky with thousands of stars and milky way!!

I got up early to see sunrise and had morning coffee at the terrace!!

It was -3℃ on the top of the mountain, so water was frozen....!!

The hat will be closed 15th October because of snow,

but I recommend to stay at "Gonoike goya" if you have chance to visit.

The autumn color in Takayama town will be started very soon!!

Beautiful Kyoto Beautiful Food Beautiful BOSS!

Hello from Hiroshima Hana Hostel, This is Kana here.
It's getting colder now  and make me not wanna get out of bed

Kyoto is one of must-visit in Japan and personally I love Kyoto  too.  Me and Chika from Hiroshima J-hoppers often visit Kyoto and Osaka together for.....half sightseeing and Drinking!!

We catch up with Erika from J-hoppers Kyoto and Keiko from J-hoppers Osaka in Osaka and had dinner together and shared many stories. Was awesome night! The restaurant which recommended by Keiko was AWESOME. I wish I could visit there with them again.

On the 2nd day, our Boss Aki took me and Chika for sightseeing in Kyoto and had beautiful Local lunch!!
We were so impressed with those little dishes. They were so delicate and we were all speechless due to the taste.

Tofu cuisine is one of well known local food in Kyoto.

And he took us where he spent his childhood. Was so quiet and peaceful. We had such a relaxing time.

Thanks Erika and Keiko for the 1st night!! Thanks Aki-san and Shin-san
 for the 2nd night!!!
And Thank you very much Chika for traveling to Osaka and Kyoto with me!!
